Music is a form of art, and like all types of art, its purpose is to entertain. It doesn’t matter whether you are into folk, indie, rock, blues, classical, jazz, pop, hip hop, or any other type of music, it is likely to have entertain you and comforted you throughout the years. Whether you go to a nightclub in New York City, or you sit in a drum circle in a remote African village, music moves you. Some people want to take that to the next level and attend music business schools for a degree. When they do, they learn about all the different aspects of music, including how it has entertained people throughout humanity’s history.
How Music Entertains
- When music plays, people start to move and dance. It doesn’t matter what style of music it is, it allows people to sway their body to the rhythm and become one with the tunes.
- Watching a fantastic artist that you love and admire is incredibly entertaining. For some people, this means going to a rock concert. Others prefer a stage musical, or go to the opera. Either way, it allows you to just forget about your own troubles for a while, and focus on the art that is being created right in front of you. This goes down to the core of your being.
- You can switch on a CD or music channel in your car, on your laptop, or on the television. You can do this on your own, or when you’re having a party. The music can energize you, driving you to do more around the home. It can allow you to reminisce about times gone by. It allows you to explore your feelings. Switching on some good tunes is cathartic for the soul.
- You can go to a club or a disco and be entertained not just by the music and its beat, but by the enjoyment others get out of it as well. In clubs and discos, anything and everything goes. You can sit in a quiet corner with a drink and just watch other people. You can jump on the dancefloor and be at the heart of the party. You can engage a dance off, “serving” other people in a breakdance battle. You can request songs from the DJ and enjoy your chosen tune and the responses of others to it. If that isn’t entertainment, then what is?
What the above demonstrates is not just how important and entertaining music is, but also how vital the skills are of those involved in the music business. You wouldn’t be able to do and enjoy any of the above if there weren’t any people behind the scenes organizing it all. Writing music to dance to, creating, marketing, and distributing albums, organizing theater productions, running nightclubs, being a DJ, those are all vital people to the music industry and music business as a whole, and they truly make the world a better place.
