If you’re like most people, the holidays are a time for indulgences. We tend to eat all kinds of sweet, salty, and fatty foods at the various parties and gatherings, and we like to sample all those specialty beverages that can also be quite high in sugar. While it’s not something you give much thought to over the holidays, suddenly, once they are over and done with and you can’t quite get the button done up on your pants, you realize you may have enjoyed yourself a bit too much.
So, if January tends to be the month you work on losing the holiday weight, then these tips are sure to help you reach your goal.
Give the HCG Diet a Try
While the hCG diet isn’t anything new, it’s still not quite a mainstream approach with many people never having heard of it. This diet hinges on the use of HCG, which is human chorionic gonadotropin. This hormone is found at very high levels during the early stages of pregnancy. When women take a pregnancy test, it is the HCG levels that are measured.
This hormone then goes on to control the production of estrogen and progesterone. Using HCG in the form of oral drops or pills is believed to speed up a person’s metabolism, which can then help with weight loss. Drops are typically the top choice since they are easy to use.
It should be noted that this diet may not work for all people, especially those who may have medical issues and conditions. Before trying this diet it’s a good idea to speak with your physician.
Don’t Wait Long Between Meals
Here’s a tip that you wouldn’t think would help but it does. Eating smaller amounts more regularly throughout the day will help to hold off hunger and the urge to binge eat. Eating every two to three hours will also help to improve your mood, give you more energy, and speed up your metabolism. Of course, in order for this tip to work, you’ll need to be reaching for healthy snacks and foods.
Drink More Water
While all those specialty mixed drinks and coffees were wonderful during the holidays, now it’s time to cut them out of the mix and start filling up on water instead. Making sure you are well hydrated is key to losing weight. In fact, often what we assume to be hunger pains is really just dehydration, so grab a glass of water instead.
It’s hard to lose weight and get your body in shape if you don’t add exercise into the mix. You don’t have to go hard and join a gym, but you do need to do regular exercise, at least 30 minutes a day. Not only will it help your weight loss goal but it’s also great for your overall health.
Cut Out Soda and Alcohol
When it comes to the foods/drinks you want to avoid, soda and alcohol are the top two to cut out. These beverages are loaded with extra calories your body just doesn’t need.
To lose that holiday weight, the best plan is to aim for steady progress rather than overnight success. This will help ensure the weight comes off in a healthy way and stays off.
