If you want to start the upcoming New Year as a healthier and fitter version of yourself, then this is definitely a New Year’s resolution that many will have. Every year, thousands of people are determined to look after their health and fitness more. However, it’s not often that it actually lasts. If you’re guilty of going to the extreme with your health and fitness in the New Year, then you’re not alone. Hitting it too hard in the gym and restricting too many of your favorite foods can leave you feeling disheartened and down in the dumps about your resolution, especially if you don’t start seeing amazing results straight away. So, we’ve put together some top tips to help you stick to staying fit if that’s your resolution for 2018.
Tip #1. Moderation is Key
If you start the year by restricting all your favorite foods and spending every spare hour that you have exercising, then you’re quickly going to tire of your new lifestyle change. This is especially true if you have gotten into the habit of eating what you like and have been living a fairly sedentary lifestyle. They say that old habits die hard, so if this is the case then it’s more than likely you’ll see yourself slipping back into old habits over time. Instead, ensure that moderation is key and take small steps towards making a big lifestyle change.
Tip #2. Swap Your Dietary Habits
One of the best ways to change your dietary habits is simply by swapping the ones that you have now for new and healthier alternatives. For example, if you take your coffee or tea with sugar, trying to cut down the amount of sugar that you have, or take it without, is a small change that will make a lot of difference. Likewise, if you drink a lot of soda or juice, trying to swap a few glasses a day for pure water instead is a diet change that your body will thank you for. You can also do the same with exercise. For example, by walking short distances instead of driving or getting off public transport a stop earlier to walk the rest of the way home.
Tip #3. Try Something New
Trying new things is key to changing your lifestyle habits, so don’t be afraid of trying new supplements, dishes, and even methods of exercising until you find the ones that you enjoy and are able to implement easily into your daily routine. For example, you could look on health blogs and sites such as recoveryourhealthtoday.com to see what others have had to say about certain foods, drinks, supplements and more, and explore the potential benefits that they can have for your health and fitness. Remember that staying healthy is different for everybody, so finding something that works for you is key to sticking at it over the course of the year and beyond.
